Frozen Yogurt vs. Ice Cream: Which is Healthier?

Ice cream is made from milk and cream, where as yogurt is made from yogurt, milk and sometimes cream.

To be labeled ice cream, it must contain 10% milk fat. There is no requirement for frozen yogurt.

Let's compare vanilla ice cream to frozen yogurt:

Ice cream: 130 calories, 7 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbs and 2 grams of protein.

Frozen yogurt: 120 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbs and 3 grams of protein.

*In yogurt there is friendly bacteria, but this benefit is lost as they are killed during the freezing process.

So.....when reading the nutrition facts label, it is important to look at the whole picture..... calories, carbs, fat and protein.

Personally, I would chose the ice cream here as the difference in calories is minimal but there is less sugar and more fat for better blood sugar balance.18581630 1885260565022003 8279477798411253824 n
